Today we simply don’t know enough about autism. SPARK—a landmark autism genetic research project—aims to make important and unprecedented progress possible. SPARK stands for ‘Simons Foundation Powering Autism Research for Knowledge,’ and the mission is simple: They want to speed up research and advance our understanding of autism to help improve lives. SPARK has partnered with national and local autism community organizations across the U.S. to help find research participants and spread the word about this landmark study. Most of these organizations traditionally have focused on providing services, advocacy, resources and networking opportunities, rather than the science of autism. With SPARK, more members of the autism community can now learn, be a part of autism research, and contribute to discovering the genetic factors that cause autism.
ACES is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families impacted with autism or other special needs. We provide comprehensive, professional services to maximize individuals' potential in the home, school and community, throughout their lifespan. It just makes sense for ACES to merge forces with SPARK -- and ACES is proud to be joining their mission.
By partnering with SPARK, ACES southern California families will have easy access to participating in the study, helping us speed up research and advance our understanding of autism so that we can better serve them. SPARK representatives from UC San Diego's Autism Center of Excellence will visit our clinics in southern California to be available for families to learn more and participate in the advancement of knowledge in autism.
