We at ACES have just learned that we have been honored with the 2020 Obelisk Award by the Business Council for the Arts (BCA) for our contributions to arts and culture in North Texas. We are very honored and excited to receive this award. It will be presented to us virtually on November 17th. Its purpose is to honor regional businesses, municipalities, nonprofit organizations, and individuals for their extraordinary support of arts and culture. BCA believes that supporting the arts is a major component of a successful economic region, such as North Texas.
The arts can be a crucial form of communication for children and adults with autism. Visual strategies can help a child understand instructions and lessons in a way that verbal cannot. They can also help to reduce frustration and behavior problems. In addition, PECS, or Picture Exchange Communication System, is an autism therapy that fosters communication through visuals as well. Children who use this therapy can see amazing results in their vocal skills as well.
While we at ACES never expect awards, they are appreciated, and they draw attention to our work. We've found that too many parents and others who know those with autism just don't know about autism resources that are available to them. By getting the word out through events and awards such as the 2020 Obelisk Award, we are able to spread the word about our autism services. We help families and children who have been impacted by autism and special needs in California, Washington, Hawaii, Colorado, and Texas.
