Today, we celebrate and honor Kristin Farmer, our CEO and founder. Kristin created ACES more than 27 years ago; her mission was clear, simple, but ambitious, to make a difference for all children with autism.
Kristin started as a teacher, working close to the children and parents, identifying their needs and pain points, and supporting children with autism in the classroom. Kristin's core value is inclusion, which truly moves her to action. She has built a fantastic organization driven by purpose and making the world a better one, advocating for autism acceptance and giving voice to those who didn't have a way to express their feelings.
There are thousands of success stories of children communicating to their parents and saying "I love you" for the first time. Kristin worked at a school in Del Mar. She was doing such a great job that people started calling her to request support.
She prepared herself professionally and trained with the best in the field. Kristin started ACES at her "office," an apartment in San Diego; her only corporate possession was a single-line cord telephone, which very soon didn't stop ringing. That was the birth of ACES, and that is how Kristin met Austin Mooney, ACES third client. At the time 3, Austin and his family moved to San Diego to get ACES autism care. He was non-verbal and had many meltdowns and behaviors. Austin's parents couldn't understand how to help him. They feared for his safety and development. Thanks to ACES and ABA therapy, today, Austin is a fantastic independent man; he is almost 30, works, does exercises, has friends, things his mom didn't seem possible at the time. Many, like Austin, have gotten support at ACES. Throughout 27 years, the ripple effect has been unmeasurable; Kristin had the vision to scale a company that serves nine states and gives support to 73 locations across California, Hawaii, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Oklahoma, and North Carolina.
Kristin has created a beautiful community, supporting clinicians in their careers and elevating the care for individuals with autism. She is an entrepreneur at heart; she doesn't fear change; Kristin embraces innovation and is full of ideas and drive. It brings her to today's successful, purposeful company, a dream that has become a reality. Kristin keeps dreaming and has big plans and projects for innovating in the field; as Steve Jobs said once, " Our job is to write what's not yet on the page", it is for sure challenging to understand visionaries; they see the future before anyone else. ACES is grateful for your story; a teacher, a visionary, an entrepreneur, and a true advocate for the neurodivergent community.
