Adaptive and Cognitive Milestones

Adaptive and cognitive skills relate to how your baby is adapting to the world around them and these milestones mark beginning stages of cognitive development.

  • Anticipates feedings, shows interest or excitement when seeing breast or bottle nipple
  • Lets you know if he or she is happy or sad
  • Responds to affection
  • Reaches for toy with one hand
  • Uses hands and eyes together, such as seeing a toy and reaching for it
  • Follows moving things with eyes from side to side
  • Watches faces closely
  • Recognizes familiar people and things at a distance

Language, Communication, Social and Emotional Milestones

These are indicators of growing skills that help your baby get care, attention, or items they want. These milestones also indicate your baby’s ability to interact with others.

  • Begins to babble
